RT-Global Resources Is Designing a Salt Factory

The company will participate in developing one of the largest rock salt deposits

Giprotsvetmet, a specialized research institute and part of RT-Global Resources, and PJSC Sol Rusi have signed a design agreement for a salt mining enterprise at the Belbazh Deposit.

The Belbazh rock salt deposit, one of the largest salt deposits, was discovered in 1973 in Nizhegorodskaya Oblast. The confirmed salt reserves of the deposit are estimated at more than 2.5 billion tons in 2016.

The Sol Rusi Group will hold the license for rock salt mining at the Belbazh Deposit until 2030.

According to the agreement, Giprotsvetmet will prepare design and detailed documentation for the construction of a brine extraction facility, a salt evaporation factory, and a related infrastructure unit — a main brine pipeline.

"We are happy to begin our cooperation with Sol Rusi. There is no doubt that this agreement is an important step towards new market segments and an opportunity to apply advanced practical results of Giprotsvetmet's research," said Igor Demidov, Resource Project Manager of RT-Global Resources.

"The development of design documentation is a significant phase of our project," noted Andrey Mitioglo, Director General of Sol Rusi. "It is very important for us to cooperate with a proven expert and one of the oldest Russian research institutes in the field of resource and technology expertise and investment planning."

State-of-the-art machinery at the Belbazh deposit will help in establishing the highest possible brine purification levels and produce "Extra" quality table salt. This includes advanced salt evaporation technologies that ensure environmental safety and zero discharge production.

Rock salt development is very valuable for many Russian and international economic sectors, such as food and chemical industries; iron and nonferrous metallurgy; and machine building and metalworking. Furthermore, the development of the Belbazh Deposit will also help in terms of import substitution.
